Dr. McArthur wins a 2020/2021 Owerko Centre Trainee Publication Award
Congratulations to one of our Post Doctoral Fellows, Dr. Brae Anne McArthur, on winning a 2020/2021 Owerko Centre Trainee Publication Award! The award ward recognizes trainees who have first authored papers focused on neurodevelopment and child mental health over a given year in an impactful and creative way.

Congrats to one of our honours students, Julianna Park, for winning the Consent Awareness & Sexual Education Club Award at the University of Calgary Student's Union Undegraduate Research Symposium. Jessy received the Alberta Innovates Graduate Studentship!
Congrats to one of our graduate students, Jessy Cooke, on receiving the Alberta Innovates (AI) Graduate Studentship in Health Solutions (Jan 2020 - Jan 2022). Her project focuses on examining the intergenerational relationships between maternal ACEs and children internalizing and externalizing problems. We are so proud of Jessy and her work!

Dr. Brae Anne McArthur wins 1st place in the Postdoc Research Slam!
We are so proud and excited for one of our post-doctoral fellows, Dr. Brae Anne McArthur, for winning first place in the University of Calgary's Postdoc Research Slam. Dr. McArthur wowed the judges with an engaging presentation on the use and impact of screen viewing in childhood in this competition where postdocs talk about their research in a speedy 3 minutes. Congratulations, Brae!

Sexting Study One of Top 10 Articles Published in JAMA Pediatrics in 2018!
Dr. Madigan and colleagues' meta-analysis on sexting behaviour among youth has ranked #2 in JAMA Paediatrics' 2018 top articles based on quantitative measure of the attention each scholarly article receives in traditional and social media. Dr. Sheri Madigan Awarded 2018 Killam Emerging Research Leader Award
Dr. Madigan was awarded the prestigious Killam Emerging Research Leader Award, which is presented to early career researchers who have made outstanding contributions to research, including: contributions and impact to knowledge and innovation; successful promotion, dissemination, and/or management of research activities; and training of graduate students and post-doctoral fellows. Summer Students Present at the URS
DCD Lab undergraduate students Whitney Ereyi-Osas and Chloe Devereux presented posters at the 2018Undergraduate Research Symposium. Whitney presented her poster on research from her ACHRI summer studentship, titled Maternal Postpartum Depression and Child Behaviour Problems in Marginalized Populations. Chloe presented her poster on research from her PURE summer studentship, titled Language Deficits and Young Children's Later Emotional Difficulties: Results from the All Our Families Cohort. We are very proud of both of them!

Our Research Highlighted In The News: Developing Empathy in Childhood
Previous post-doc, Dr. Marc Jambon, and Dr. Madigan recently published in Child Development on the important influence siblings have on one another in developing empathy. Both Dr. Jambon and Dr. Madigan have recently shared their findings in The Conversation. In addition, The Conversation has also featured their piece emphasizing three strategies for promoting child empathy. Dr. Madigan recently spoke about these findings on CTV.

Congratulations to Dr. Rochelle Hentges for achieving the Talisman Energy Research Fund Postdoctoral Award! This is a prestigious competitive award given by Alberta Children's Hospital Research Institute (ACHRI). Post-doctoral fellows must be supervised by a member of the ACHRI Healthy Living, Injury Prevention and Optimizing Health Outcomes Theme Group to qualify for the award. Rochelle is co-supervised by Dr. Sheri Madigan and Dr. Susan Graham. We are very proud of Rochelle's accomplishment!
